Fortim d'El-Rei

Ruined 1852 fort on the hill above the port, the oldest building in Mindelo.

Fortim d'El-Rei was built by the Portuguese in 1852-1853 on the hill north of the bay, making it the oldest surviving building in Mindelo. In ruins but walkable, with a wide view over Porto Grande; used only for civil purposes from around 1930.
