22 January is São Vicente’s municipal holiday: it marks the island’s discovery by the navigator Diogo Afonso on 22 January 1462 and coincides with the feast of the island’s patron saint. Expect a solemn mass and procession plus civic commemorations; the Câmara Municipal publishes the programme closer to the date.
