São Vicente’s own São João festa centres on Ribeira de Julião, a short ride from Mindelo: drumming, traditional song and dance, food stalls, and a mass and pilgrimage where the religious and the profane mix, around 24 June. Mindelo’s edition is a municipal take on the Kolá San Jon tradition, whose biggest celebration is on neighbouring Santo Antão. The municipality publishes the exact days (the 2026 edition ran 23–24 June) closer to the date.
